Purse

A purse goes hand in hand with the symbol Money.

Positive: A picture of financial provision

Negative: A picture of lack and theft

POSITIVE

A purse or wallet speaks of finances. To dream of having your purse being filled speaks of blessing and financial provision.

If you see a purse filled with money in the spirit, it is speaking of a financial provision. It is for you to release it and speak it forth into the earth.

NEGATIVE

To dream of your wallet being empty, speaks of lack and a curse.

A purse that has holes in it speaks of a curse in your life. Could it be that you have stopped sowing into the work of the Lord?

"You have sown much, and bring in little; you eat, but do not have enough; you drink, but you are not filled with drink; you clothe yourselves, but no one is warm; and he who earns wages, earns wages to put into a bag with holes." Haggai 1:6

A hand stealing money out of a bag refers to a spirit of theft.

"This he said, not that he cared for the poor, but because he was a thief, and had the money box; and he used to take what was put in it." John 12:6

Rain

The culmination of a long season involving tilling the ground, sowing and nurturing the field God has given to you. You have done your work. Now it is time for God to do His.

Positive: A season of rest after an intense season of labor
Negative: Rain in the wrong season – a work of the enemy in your circumstances, to steal your blessing

CHARACTER SPECIFIC SYMBOL

POSITIVE

If you like rain, then it speaks of a change of season for you. It speaks of being washed clean and having the opportunity to start over again.

Rain is a lovely picture in dreams of putting the old behind you and starting afresh.

NEGATIVE

Being caught in rain is seldom enjoyable, and most of the time you try to get out of it.

If this is the case in your dream, then the rain speaks of pressures and conflicts in your life.

UNIVERSAL SYMBOL

POSITIVE

In the Word, rain was always a promise of blessing that was on its way. It is very much the finishing touch on all your hard work.

As you have sowed seeds in the natural and spiritual, you can only go so far and then it is up to the Lord to do the rest.

A vision of rain is a confirmation that it is time for you to step back and for God to now do His part to bring about the blessing in your life.

"The Lord will open to you His good treasure, the heavens, to give the rain to your land in its season, ..." Deuteronomy 28:12

NEGATIVE

If the rain you see is a dark cloud and a thunderstorm, it speaks of the work of the enemy and the plan he has for you. His intent is to destroy the blessing you have labored so long for.

"These are wells without water, clouds carried by a tempest, for whom is reserved the blackness of darkness forever..." 2 Peter 2:17

Rainbow

Confirmation of God’s Promise.

UNIVERSAL SYMBOL

POSITIVE

A rainbow does not confirm a new promise, but rather confirms one that has already been given. The rainbow was given to Noah as a covenant sign of the promise God had given him. In the same way, to see a rainbow in a vision or prophetic dream is the Lord saying, “My child I have not forgotten my promise to you – in fact I am bringing it to pass even now. Keep standing in faith!”

"And God said to Noah, “This is the sign of the covenant which I have established between Me and all flesh that is on the earth.” Genesis 9:17

NEGATIVE

To see a “pot of gold” at the end of a rainbow is not positive. It speaks of having faith in wishful thinking and fantasy instead of in the truth of the Word. To see a leprechaun is also negative, and you are likely seeing something demonic that is related to something occult that has an influence on finances.

It is either a demonic power that person is using to gain wealth or they are wanting the Lord to “do magic” to bring their promise to pass instead of them simply standing in faith and walking in obedience.

River

A place of rest. It also represents the anointing of the Holy Spirit.

Positive: The Holy Spirit within
Negative: To allow circumstances or the thoughts of others to control you

CHARACTER SPECIFIC SYMBOL

POSITIVE

A river is a lovely place of rest. If you dream of being by a river, it means that the Lord is calling you into a time of rest and just receiving from Him.

You cannot control a river - you can only go with its flow. So let go of trying to figure things out and doing things your own way and let the Holy Spirit carry you.

A river is also a picture of the life we have in Christ. We have within us rivers of living water! I cover this more in my description on Fountain.

NEGATIVE

Rapids and a raging river speak of conflict and upheaval in your life.

Perhaps you feel frustrated and out of control at the moment. Your solution is to come into the presence of the Lord and to let Him take control of your life once again.

Your spirit is like a lake that looks so calm, but if you put a stick into it and stir the water, all the mud at the bottom starts to surface and make the water muddy.

This is such a good picture of when you start to press on into the things of God, all the junk that has been inside of you for years starts coming up.

If this has begun to happen to you, it is good news. The Lord is exposing these things to bring healing and to deal with them once and for all.

UNIVERSAL SYMBOL

POSITIVE

We have rivers or streams of water inside of us. This is a picture of the Holy Spirit that dwells inside of every believer, and that continues to give us His power and anointing.

"He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water." John 7:38

A river is a wonderful picture of the anointing.

When we come together as believers, we all combine our little tributaries to make one raging river! It is the first step towards revival.

"Again he measured one thousand, and it was a river that I could not cross; for the water was too deep, water in which one must swim, a river that could not be crossed." Ezekiel 47:5

Waterfall: A waterfall is also a picture of the work of the Holy Spirit. Because of the power that a waterfall carries, it is a lovely picture of His revival power and the external anointing.

While a waterfall is a picture of the revival power of the Holy Spirit, a gentle stream is a lovely picture of the anointing that bubbles out from deep inside our spirits.

NEGATIVE

A river that is dirty or contaminated speaks of someone who has the anointing, but it has been contaminated with something that is not of the Lord. (Either the spirit of the world, or something demonic.)

To have a vision of sand being dumped into a river speaks of adding the works of the flesh contaminating the anointing. Your sin and works are contaminating the pure work of God in your life.

A raging river you cannot control also speaks of being swept away with the crowd – its time to stand in your convictions! It can also speak of being overwhelmed by your circumstances and allowing them to dictate your direction.

Road

A picture of your life, as it lies ahead of you.

Positive: The way God has already prepared for you
Negative: A warning of what the enemy has prepared to trip you up

CHARACTER SPECIFIC AND UNIVERSAL SYMBOLS

POSITIVE

Depending on the kind of road you are on, will determine how the next step of your journey is about to unfold.

A garden road represents a season of restful progress. It will be slower, but more enjoyable.

When in prayer: It is important to take into account who and what you are praying for at the time of receiving the vision. If you are praying as a group, then the road is a picture of what you will face together.

If you are praying for yourself, then that road is a picture of your own future.

The best road to see in Scripture is a straight and smooth road. When you are walking in the blessing of the Lord you can expect no hindrances, but an easy walk in life.

"In all your ways know, recognize, and acknowledge Him, and He will direct and make straight and plain your paths." Proverbs 3:6 (AMP)

Sometimes you might see treasures along the side of the road. This is a picture of the things you will learn or obtain as you continue in the direction you are already going in.

A highway is a picture of an open road that has been prepared for you. You might see a new road being opened to you. This is very positive! The Lord has gone ahead and prepared your way. The next season is going to have clear direction and a smooth path.

A hiking trail is a positive picture. It means that the Lord is about to take you on a journey of discovery. This is not a fast road! This is a process and you need to allow Him to complete everything in you according to the purpose of this journey.

A wilderness road is a picture of a direction that the Lord has prepared for you. Even though it might seem impossible and that you are surrounded by a wilderness, He is promising that He will make a way through.

"Behold, I will do a new thing, now it shall spring forth; shall you not know it? I will even make a road in the wilderness and rivers in the desert." Isaiah 43:19

NEGATIVE

A dirt road indicates that the time ahead is going to be bumpy. It is also likely that the way has not yet been prepared and there needs to be a season of waiting before taking a step forward. The message is clear – it is not time right now to take this road!

When I see thorns or rocks along a road, I know the enemy has put things in the way of my goal to trip me up.

The reason why the Lord shows this to you is so that you can take authority over the enemy and clear that road!

If you dream that you take a wrong turn on the road, it means that you made a wrong choice somewhere along the line. You cannot try to find the right way from this vantage point. Rather you need to go back to where you missed it and try again.

To see a detour means that you are going off the main direction God has for you for now.

This is not necessarily all negative, as it could speak of a phase of training you need before you can continue in the direction you had.

"Therefore, behold, I will hedge up your way with thorns, and wall her in, so that she cannot find her paths." Hosea 2:6

Running

The pursuit of a specific goal in your natural or spiritual life.

Positive: To take ground

Negative:

  • To push forward in your own strength

  • To strive with a spirit of strife and vainglory

  • To be competitive

POSITIVE

To dream of running a race and you are making progress is a good dream. It indicates that you are making progress in your spiritual walk with God right now.

To reach the end of a race means that you have accomplished your goal and it is time to move on. Dreaming of running an old race means that you are revisiting accomplishments from the past.

To run towards someone that represents the Lord means that you are in pursuit of the Lord and that you will catch Him.

Running with weights can be negative or positive. In a positive sense it means that you are being tested by the Lord right now so that you can become strong. In a negative sense, it means that the enemy is weighing you down so that you cannot mature in the Lord.

NEGATIVE

To dream of running away for no reason indicates that you are trying to avoid certain responsibilities and conflicts in your life right now.

To run in many directions at once means that you lack conviction and are unsure of what you want in life. (1 Cor 9:26)

To run away from someone that represents the Lord in your dreams means that you are trying to run away from God and what He has told you to do. (Jonah 1:10)

If you are running towards someone that represents the Lord, but you keep “missing” Him, it means that you are struggling in your spiritual walk right now.

To run towards danger means that you are headed for trouble. Is there an area of your life where you are always met with failure? Dreaming of running into a wall or trouble means that you are about to make the same mistake again.

To run a race that you are losing is a reflection of your own feeling of failure and inadequacy. To dream or have a vision of someone “cutting in on you” means that you have allowed yourself to become sidetracked and led astray.

"You were running a good race. Who cut in on you and kept you from obeying the truth?" - Galatians 5:7 (NIV)

If you are dreaming or having visions of running without end, then it means that you are trying to walk out your call using works. Not only are you striving in your flesh, but you are also trying to compete with others.

You are running so hard to prove yourself, that you inadvertently keep pushing others aside, needing to take their position in the race. You are desperate to win this race! This desperation brings a spirit of strife. Rather choose to lose the race. Rather sit down and rest a while in the presence of the Lord.

School

The interpretation for a dream of a school, college and University is twofold:

  1. Gaining knowledge and qualifying in a particular realm of your life.

  2. The educational system of the world.

Positive: The proof of your qualification

Negative: The proof of your ignorance

CHARACTER SPECIFIC SYMBOL

POSITIVE

Depending on your personal view of school, you will have a different interpretation. The most universal of course is a place of learning, and it speaks of the knowledge you have attained over the years.

If you dream that you pass a test or go up a grade in school, it means that you have passed a spiritual test and that you are ready to move forward.

It is an indication that you qualified in the task that the Lord gave you to do, and now you are ready to be promoted to a new level.

Of course with that new level will come more testing and learning.

"His lord said to him, Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord." Matthew 25:21

This may speak of spiritual maturity or of a ministry office.

If you dream of going to a school or University, it means that there is some knowledge that you lack and the Lord wants you to receive it.

If you dream of a school you attended in the past and your emotions are intense, then what you are looking at is a good example of a healing or purging dream that relates to that era in your life.

NEGATIVE

If you dream that you have to write the same test repeatedly or repeat a grade, it means that you have not learned the lesson that God needs you to, and so you keep “going around the same mountain” so to speak.

If you keep dreaming of a school you attended in the past, it could mean that there are still hurts from this area that are troubling you.

Scorpion

A spirit of infirmity that is responsible for a lot of pain.

Dreaming or seeing a scorpion in vision means that you are being attacked by a spirit of infirmity.

I suffered once with terrible sciatic pain. No matter what medication I took or how often I went to the chiropractor, it did not let up.

One evening as my husband Craig was praying for me, he saw a scorpion in the spirit on my back. He took authority over it in the name of Jesus and the pain left instantly.

From having to take medication continuously, I was completely set free.

If you are suffering with a particular pain or sickness and no medication seems to work, then you are dealing with more than just a physical problem. You are dealing with a spirit of infirmity.

"Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you." Luke 10:19

Seed

A promise of something to come.

Positive: The potential to produce greatness
Negative: A small influence that will lead to bigger problems down the line

CHARACTER SPECIFIC SYMBOL

POSITIVE

To dream of planting seeds speaks of investing into something that will later bear fruit. If you dream of receiving a seed, it has the same picture. In both cases however, some work is involved before you can reap the fruit.

So, although it speaks of a promise of a harvest, you need to be diligent to sow!

If the seeds that you are sowing are related to your business or workplace, then they speak of the effort and the time you are putting into your work.

They are seeds that will later reap many benefits for you.

In ministry you also sow seeds that you do not see the fruit of right away.

If you dream that someone gives you a seed, it means that you have received a blessing, anointing or ability from someone, but again it requires action on your part.

They can gladly give you the seed of their success or anointing, but it is for you to take it and walk it out.

NEGATIVE

If you dream that the seeds are shriveled and useless, then it means that the promises you were given have been stolen from you.

This could be a result of failure on your part, or perhaps a curse prevalent in your life.

If you dream that you receive a seed that you feel is negative, then it means that you are accepting something from another person that is not a blessing at all. You do not need to be forced to take it!

UNIVERSAL SYMBOL

POSITIVE

Speaking of spiritual parenting: A seed also speaks of where you originate from. In a spiritual sense it speaks of your spiritual parents.

If you dream of a seed or a seedling that is growing, it could be a picture of the spiritual blessing you have received from your spiritual parents.

If you see that seedling being plucked up and replanted, it may be an indication that the Lord is going to remove you from your current spiritual parents and give you new ones.

"You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you:" John 15:16

Speaking of sowing in ministry: The sower sowing the Word is a perfect picture of real ministry. Daily you sow and give out, but1d not every seed survives.

When we started our first Prophetic School I was very active and directly involved with all the students. We had quite a crowd and I did everything I could to care for each one. I would run after each one and work so hard until I was drained.

The Lord showed me a garden with seeds in it. He showed me how some of the seeds flourished, and how others did not grow at all.

He said that as a gardener I would take care of the seeds that were growing, not neglect them and care for the dead seeds instead!

The message was clear. I was spending so much time on students who had no intention of following through, and neglecting those with a real fire for the Lord.

In my efforts to try and make everyone happy, those who had a real heart for God were being neglected. Certainly this is a good lesson for anyone in ministry. It is important that we sow our seeds in good soil for a good harvest.

"Now may He who supplies seed to the sower, and bread for food, supply and multiply the seed you have sown and increase the fruits of your righteousness," 2 Corinthians 9:10

Speaking of faith: The mustard seed has always been a picture of faith. Although it starts out small, it has the potential to grow very large.

If you see your faith as a mustard seed, then you have a long way to go! Although it is an illustration of faith, it does not mean that your faith should just remain as a seed! It has to grow.

If the Lord shows you a mustard seed, then He is telling you that it is time to increase your faith and grow it into a big tree that many can benefit from.

"It is like a mustard seed, which a man took and put in his garden; and it grew and became a large tree, and the birds of the air nested in its branches." Luke 13:19

NEGATIVE

This one can appear both positive and negative. At first it might seem that the seed has died, but it is only for the purpose of resurrection.

If you are in ministry you will experience this often. Your visions will be called to death.

"Most assuredly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it produces much grain." John 12:24

To receive a negative seed means that you are accepting something that at first seems insignificant, but will become a big problem down the line. You might be compromising or taking in just one small idea that does not seem to be a big deal now, but beware – this seed has the potential to grow into something you do not anticipate!

Shield

  •  Protection

  • A representation of strength and position

Positive: A place of temporary rest in the middle of battle

Negative: The hiding place of the enemy

POSITIVE

A shield is a perfect picture of the protection that we have in the Lord. In the middle of battle, we can hide behind His shield! It does not mean that you no longer have to face the battle though. You must still fight, but you can do so, knowing that you will be protected.

A shield is also a picture of faith in the Scriptures.

When you trust the Lord and have faith in Him, then He can protect you and do mighty things on your behalf.

"Every word of God is pure; He is a shield to those who put their trust in Him" Proverbs 30:5

Our shield of faith prevents us from coming under the attack of the enemy, or any curse. You do not overcome by sending your own arrows. Rather you just put up your shield of faith!

"Above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one." Ephesians 6:16

"But You, O Lord, are a shield for me, my glory and the One who lifts up my head." Psalms 3:3

Ornate shield: Shields are mostly used in warfare, however an ornate sword was a deliberate show of wealth and position. Solomon made two hundred of them and put them in his palace. It represented the protection he received from the Lord as well as a clear display of his wealth and position.

"And King Solomon made two hundred large shields of hammered gold; six hundred shekels of gold went into each shield" 1 Kings 10:16

Emblem: Shield: Because a shield was very much part of the uniform a soldier wore it is also a representation of your “tribe” or those things you ally yourself to. What is protecting you? If a specific emblem stands out in a vision or dream it is an indication of what you are using to protect yourself.

NEGATIVE

Shields are positive for the most part, but naturally the shield of an enemy would be negative. A black shield standing against you speaks of opposition from the enemy.

For your shield to become tarnished or to rust is also negative. You are not investing into your spiritual life and remaining in the hand of God. You are walking in the flesh and this is causing you to step out of God’s protection.
